Car Safety for Kids

Car safety is important for people of all ages, but children in particular are more at risk in an accident to be seriously injured. This is particularly true if recommended safety procedures are not followed. These protocols are in place for a reason and following them is always going to be best practice for car safety for kids.

In the State of Florida, it is legally required for children who are under the age of 5 to be in a car seat while riding in a vehicle. This is not only necessary, but it greatly reduces the risk of injury for the child in the event of a car accident. State law also specifically designates special and separate car sets for children ages 3 and 4 respectively.

Even for children who are older than 5, a booster seat is still recommended up to around 8-12 years old. The recommendation for booster seats more so has to do with height than age, as any child under 4’8” should be in a booster seat. This is primarily because that is the minimum height in which the seat belt in a car fits the best and is most effective. It is also advised, by the State, that no child under 12 should sit in the front seat of a car.
