Florida Hit with Slew of Bizarre Workplace Injuries

WorkInjury18

Sometimes, workplace injuries are anything but predictable in Florida. Whether you’re a construction worker, an office worker, or a professional driver, there’s always the chance that something totally unexpected might happen. Fortunately, workers’ comp is supposed to cover virtually any injury imaginable at the workplace – no matter how random or unexpected it might be. Florida has seen a surge of these unexpected accidents in recent weeks, and we can only hope that the victims of these incidents make full recoveries.

Man Suffers “Medical Episode” Before Barreling into Construction Worker in Pickup

On November 6th of 2023, it was reported that a construction worker in Seminole County had been struck and seriously injured by a man driving a pickup truck. Like so many other construction accidents, this involved a roadside employee trying to earn a living while working on a highway. The pickup driver reportedly suffered some kind of medical episode before losing control of his vehicle and barreling into the construction zone. The worker’s injuries were reportedly serious but not life-threatening.

Employee Seriously Injured at Jacksonville Fair

On November 4th, it was reported that a maintenance worker at the Jacksonville Fair had suffered serious injury due to some kind of mishap with a ride. The worker was apparently trying to conduct routine maintenance when something went wrong – causing a broken arm. There was very little further information released to the public, although the Fire and Rescue Department reported the injury as “life-threatening.” This seems at odds with the official statement from Belle City Amusements, which suggested it was a simple fracture.

Witnesses reacted by expressing skepticism about safety at the fair, with one individual quoted as saying “there is bound to be accidents happening.” Another witness admitted that they were frightened by the incident, stating: “I don’t think I should go on any other rides.” The safety issue is further highlighted by the Jacksonville Fair’s history of such incidents. In 2018, seven people were injured due to a mishap on a ride called the “Sky Flyer.” The ride later proved to be some kind of knock-off counterfeit, and the operators were also apparently negligent.

Angry Mom Arrested after Attempting to Run Over School Staff in Port Charlotte

Workers may also face threats from unstable individuals, and this was made clear after a staffer at a high school was almost run over by an angry mother in Port Charlotte. On November 8th, it was reported that the mother had been taken into custody, and that she was facing aggravated assault charges. Apparently, the staffer tried to stop the mother from exiting a school parking lot because school buses were trying to enter. Although she obeyed, the mother later drove toward the staffer at a high rate of speed, allegedly causing him to dive into the bushes to avoid being hit.
